Farm Club 23rd June 2014

At Farm Club this week, we checked on the polytunnel and found lots of plants needed watering – especially our salad bar! Some children watered and fed the plants and we did a bit of weeding. We noticed that the broad beans are approaching harvest time – will they be ready in a week or two?  We each had  two lovely strawberries to eat – picked fresh.

We got some of the tomatoes that we had potted up a month ago and planted them outside in a spare raised bed. They looked rather neglected and sad – let’s see if they recover.

Four children went to clean out the chickens. Josh was great at sweeping out the coop and we replaced the wood shavings with straw left over from the Camp-Over. We added some diatom powder to combat the risk of red mite.

We worked hard at times but also had a good chat. It was hot, and we found out that the hottest day ever on Earth was 57 degrees centigrade!
